Jose "El Güero" Castro is a new man after losing 40 pounds.

"I had a skiing accident during my vacation in December. Two months ago, I got an operation on my knee, which I had already hurt playing American football," he said. "The doctor recommended that I lose weight so that I could take pressure off my knees."

His operation was near the time he and Angelique Boyer, 25, called it quits. This prompted news outlets to speculate that the weight loss had to do with Boyer, who has been tied to co-star Sebastián Rulli, 38, countless times.

Boyer and Castro agreed they wouldn't elaborate on the breakup, and neither has budged thus far. When asked about Boyer, he continued to keep mum on the subject.

"It's a topic that I just don't want to talk about," he said. "It's my private life, and I will not speak further about the topic."

He did add that he's going to focus his energy on his family and his work.

His next project, "La Malquerida," includes a little bit of both.

The theme song for the telenovela is sung by his nephew Cristian Castro, who is joined by Jesus Navarro de Reik and Melissa. The song was performed live at an event, complete with a piano, violins and an orchestra.

Getting this telenovela on the air has been a lot of work.

Castro had to wait 15 years to adapt the story for the small screen. "La Malquerida" was written by Jacinto Benavente 101 years ago, and it was considered a controversial story for its time.

The telenovela will air in Mexico on June 2. The story follows the tension between a mother and daughter who love the same man.

"I wanted to tell this story for the past 15 years," he said. "After removing, treating, storing in a drawer, dusting it every two years, I am now able to adapt the story into a telenovela format with the help of writer Ximena Suárez."
