"Rick and Morty" Season 3 Episode 1 titled "The Rickshank Redemption" aired April 1. Fans wondered if this was an April Fool's prank by show creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon because the two announced just recently that they are still unsure when season 3 will air. The reverse prank episode featured events that led to the ultimate escape of Rick Sanchez and how he reunited with his family. The show was confusing as well as comforting to fans who were badgering Harmon on social media to release next season. Fans and followers of the Adult Swim cartoon series have been waiting for season 3 for nearly two years, season 2 bid farewell in October 2015.

No one knew that "Rick and Morty" Season 3 Episode 1 was to air on April Fool's Day. The announcement was released hours before the actual air time. In "The Rickshank Redemption" Rick managed to do three major events in a matter of 30 minutes, io9 reported. He was able to defeat the Council of Ricks which was out to kill him, overthrow the Federation who wants to retrieve the portal gun prototype and get rid of Jerry Smith.

Rick was able to fool the Federation as they tapped into his mind; he was able to move from one body to another until he was able to find Rick and Summer who were also determined to look for him in "Rick and Morty" Season 3 Episode 1. Rick knew exactly how to defeat the Federation and he did this is just by changing their monetary system from 1 to 0. Chaos ensued and Jerry, who was enjoying a fine life as an employee at the Federation office on Earth, was suddenly jobless again. Rick, Morty and Summer came back home through a portal to the delight of Beth. Jerry on the other hand made Beth choose between him and Rick which became the climax of episode 1.
