Today marks the one-year anniversary for the HTC Vive Virtual Reality headset, and right now tech enthusiasts can purchase the basic system kit for a discounted $700, which is $100 off its usual price of $800. This amazing deal is currently offered on several retailers and online stores including Amazon, Newegg, and the Microsoft Store.

According to PC World, the basic HTC Vive bundle includes the VR headset, a pair of wireless controllers, and two base stations intended for room tracking. The HTC Vive VR headset itself weighs roughly 1.2 pounds, with the displays supplying 1080x1200 resolution for each eye.

In addition to the HTC Vive bundle, owners would also need a pretty high-end PC in order to support all the VR experience, including a Core i5-4590 processor or better, at least 4GB worth of RAM, and a minimum GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 480 or even better versions. This means that owners are not able to use the HTC Vive to its full potential without a high-end PC.

Once purchased and having the new Vive all set-up, owners can then check out HTC's Viveport store for some non-gaming VR experiences. The company has recently announced a subscription service that enables users to try out five VR apps per month for only $7. According to Venture Beat, the first month is going to be free for all Vive owners.

Despite the amazing discount, some people still think that even at $700, the Vive still isn't pretty expensive compared to the Oculus Rift, which costs about $600. However, the Vive's system is different since its base station trackers enable the thing HTC calls "room scale VR."

This would allow HTC Vive owners to move around the physical world in a 15 ft. x 15 ft. area and have their physical movements reflected in the virtual world. On the other end, the Oculus Rift default experience is a lot more stationary.
