16-Year-Old Mexican Singer Reinvents Selena’s Hit Songs

Ángela Aguilar is a 16-year-old singer in the United States of America who recently made a tribute album to the long-time deceased start Selena. 

She is of Mexican and American descent. She has become known for merging Ranchero and Mariachi music into brilliant musical pieces. 

Selena's Legacy Lives On

Aguilar shared how many of the girls her age are not familiar with the music of Selena. He wanted to promote Selena's type of music to her fellow female teenagers. Her revival and reinvented versions of some of the famous songs of Selena is her way to promote that kind of music to the youth of this generation. Aguilar wanted to keep Selena's legacy to the new generation. 

The tribute album included a remixed and reinterpreted version of Selena's 'Como La Flor', 'No Me Queda Mas,' and 'Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.' All of these songs were included in Aguilar's EP named Baila Esta Cumbia.

In a social media post by Aguilar, she stated that she releases the EP to give tribute and recognition to Selena's contribution to the music industry. She expresses her gratitude for the role Selena played for uplifting the Latino community. Aguilar proudly shares her Mexican-American heritage similar to Selena's. She also expressed their similarity when it comes to their love for their family. Her post also revealed how she idolizes Selena's passion for dancing and singing. 

Aguilar's Growing Glowing Star 

Aguilar was only 15 years old when she experienced being nominated for the Grammy Awards for the first time. The category she was nominated for was for 'Best Regional Mexican Music Album' for 2019.

Additionally, she received additional praise coming from Lady Gaga after Aguilar released a cover of the song 'The Shallow.' 

Her Musical Heritage

According to an article from Remezcla, Her interest in Ranchero music partially originates from her family. Her father, Pepe Aguilar was a Mariachi singer. Her grandfather, Antonio Aguilar was also a Mariachi singer and actor. Her grandmother was also a singer and an actress.

During the 2019 Grammys, she shared her unique experience with the Ranchera music genre that she had never experienced in the other genres. 

She shared a story of how she had been re-awakening their family name in the music industry. 

Last year, Pepe Aguilar held the Jaripeo Sin Fronteras. It is an event that combines traditional bull riding with a concert. One of his line-up of singers was his daughter, Angela Aguilar. He proudly admits her daughter's modern take on the mariachi genre.

Angela shared how she grew up surrounded by music. She listened to her family's music while growing up.

Last year, their family held the centennial birthday celebration of her late grandfather Antonio Aguilar. He and his wife had once dominated the Mexican entertainment industry.

During an interview by Remezcla, she revealed that she is also a typical teenager who has hobbies and have to go to school.

She is an artist. She is a student who shares a classroom with other 15 students. Also, she is an artist who travels around the world to share her music with thousands of people.
