The Beginning of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's Relationship

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith first met on the set of "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" in 1990 when the actress auditioned for her role in the show. However, Jada did not get the part.

Will said he also saw Jada on the set of "A Different World," but he was not able to connect with her. Then, he noticed Sheree Fletcher Zampino, who later became his wife.

Jada might not have been Will's princess at the time, but she later became his queen. According to Cosmopolitan, after Will and Sheree split, the actor straight-up called Jada and asked if she was seeing anybody, and the actress said no, prompting them to go out.

On New Year's Eve of 1997, Will and Jada got married while she was pregnant with their son Jaden. But in a 2019 interview with People, Jada said she did not want to make their relationship "official" on paper.

"I never wanted to get married. But my mother was like, 'You have to get married' - she's so old-school - and Will wanted a family. So I said, 'Alright, maybe it's something I should do," the actress noted.

Jada gave birth to their first child, Jaden, on July 8, 1998. They then welcomed their second child, Willow, on October 31, 2000.

Jaden showed that he also has a talent for acting as he appeared in several films, including "The Karate Kid" and "The Get Down." On the other hand, Willow shares the gift of music with the rest of her family. She released her latest single, "Transparent Soul."

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's marriage is not perfect. In 2011, there were rumors of Jada hooking up with Marc Anthony. But Jada's representative said the rumors were false.

In 2013, The Sun reported that rumors about an affair between Margot Robbie and Will surfaced. However, Robbie denied the allegations, tweeting that "there's absolutely no truth to the ridiculous rumour" and "it's disappointing that goofing around on-set could be taken so out of context."

In 2015, Jada Pinkett Smith was introduced to rapper August Alsina. The duo attended the BET Awards together in 2017.

Jada revealed in 2020 that she had an "entanglement" with the rapper and that she had a relationship with him when her marriage with Will had a difficult time.

In that same year, August claimed that Will Smith gave their relationship a blessing. However, Jada's representative asserted that this was not true.

Here's What Keeps Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Together

In April 2013, Jada Pinkett Smith did a sit-down interview on Huffington Live, where viewers assumed that she and Will Smith were in an open marriage.

This was because she shared in the interview that she told Will about doing whatever he likes. She later clarified in a Facebook post that they could do whatever they want because they trust each other.

But in his 2021 GQ interview, Will Smith admitted that their relationship had evolved beyond monogamy. He noted that their open marriage was essential for them to stay together as they believe that marriage "can't be a prison."

Will said: "For the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection... We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way."

The actor added that he believes the "unconditional" support they show each other while experiencing freedom was "the highest definition of love."
