A fiery collision in Los Angeles, California on Thursday led to the death of five people, including an unborn baby and an infant.

According to the Daily Mail, the accident occurred when a black car sped towards forwarding traffic without any attempt to brake, prompting a multi-vehicle crash that led to the fire.

California Fiery Collision: Victims of the Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash

The accident specifically occurred in Los Angeles' Windsor Hills, in an area of South La Brea Avenue and Slauson Avenue, NBC Palm Springs reported, citing City News Service.

Los Angeles County Fire Department initially confirmed that four adults, one infant, and one fetus died in the aftermath of the multi-vehicle crash.

California Highway Patrol also initially reported six casualties following the crash, per The Sun. However, the agency provided an updated number of casualties to five on the same day. 

Initial reports claim that seven were injured in the aftermath of the accident. But CHP later confirmed that the number of injured was nine, New York Post mentioned.

Six of the nine injured were reportedly children and teens. Eight of the injured were sent to area hospitals.

Authorities also added that six children and two adults suffered minor injuries.

CHP also noted that the driver was brought to the hospital on Thursday with major injuries. However, authorities did not reveal the identity of the driver.

California: Los Angeles Fiery Multi-Vehicle Crash

The beginning of the footage showed not so busy traffic in the said streets, but when cars started to fill the roads, a black car abruptly slammed into other vehicles, crashing on some cars and setting them on fire.

The black car that caused the accident, which was a Mercedes, did not attempt to brake as the lines of cars get nearer. City News Service that the black car that caused the accident was speeding southbound.

The impact of the collision set car parts into the air. CHP reported that three vehicles were involved in the crash after the black Mercedes slammed onto a gas station located on the other side of the road.

Witnesses claimed that two of the cars came to a stop under a fuel station sign, while another rolled onto its near the gas station entrance.

Multiple police and fire units were said to be on the scene, while black smoke could be seen in the area of Los Angeles, California where the accident occurred.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and the intersection in the said roads remained closed for an unknown duration.

 Residents were also advised to avoid the area near the crash.
