Kyrie Irving is one of the most controversial players in the history of the NBA, from being an anti-vaxxer to posting a link to an antisemitic work on social media.

The posting of the link on his Twitter feed got him suspended by his team Brooklyn Nets, and from his endorsement deal with Nike.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the seven-time NBA All-Star, former NBA champion, and Olympic Gold medalist have an annual salary worth $35 million with the Brooklyn Nets.

As an NBA player in 2014, he signed a five-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers worth $94 million. He then signed a four-year $141 million deal with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019.

Adding to that, he also has plenty of endorsement deals with Pepsi, Skullcandy, and Nike. Irving earned around $36 million from salary and endorsements between June 2017 and June 2018.

In the next fiscal year, he earned around $43 million. Finally, for the period of June 2019 and June 2020, Irving earned $40 million.

However, while he certainly earns a lot through his salary and endorsements, Kyrie Irving also loses a lot of money because of his actions and personal beliefs.

Anti-Vaxxer and Antisemitic Controversies Surrounding Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving was one of the few NBA players who believed that the Earth was flat. However, that raised only a few eyebrows since he apologized for that belief.

The real controversy with Irving actually started during the pandemic when he refused to get vaccinated. It cost him some game time and a few companies that distanced themselves from him and his anti-vaccine beliefs.

His choice of not getting the vaccine went against New York's workplace vaccine mandate. It means that he could not play road games against the New York Knicks and home games for his Brooklyn Nets.

The team opted to bench the NBA star for road games through the first half of the season, which led to Irving only playing 29 games during the previous NBA season.

While he will still be making $36 million this year, he believes not getting to play that much last year has cost him millions. "I gave up four years, $100-something million deciding to be unvaccinated," he noted.

His latest controversy arrived soon after when he shared a link to a video promoting antisemitic tropes. While he admitted some information in the film was wrong, he refused to apologize for sharing it, prompting the Brooklyn Nets to suspend him for five games.

However, the real big blow came from Nike. After the Nets suspended him, Nike, in turn, also suspended the controversial Australian-born point guard. Irving's partnership with the sports apparel brand is reportedly worth $11 million.

Irving apologized eventually, but it was too late. According to Yahoo! Sports, while he might lose approximately $2.2 million from missing games due to his unpaid suspension, Irving might lose an even bigger amount with his Nike suspension.

Nike not only suspended their relationship with Irving, but they also effectively canceled the release of their Kyrie Irving 8 shoe. Irving's shoe line was popular, as it was in the Top 5 best-selling shoes for Nike. Thus, he is set to lose a lot more, but no estimates have been made so far.

Kyrie Irving Net Worth

Celebrity Net Worth estimated that the controversial NBA player is worth around $90 million with his salary and endorsement deals.

It is noted that the number could have been much higher if he got vaccinated and was able to play those home games during the pandemic.
