The late British monarch Queen Elizabeth was secretly friends with actor Tom Cruise before her death.

A close source noted that the late queen and the top-notch actor "really hit it off" over the summer, with the "Mission: Impossible" star appearing at Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, according to a Yahoo News report.

The sources noted that the late queen had let it known that she was "really disappointed not to have met" Cruise at the pageant. As a result, the actor was invited to have a special tour of Windsor Castle with everything prepared for him.

After the tour, the two reportedly had tea together. They added that the queen loved seeing the actor, so much that Queen Elizabeth invited Cruise back for lunch.

The visit was determined a success and Cruise was given the chance to fire a ceremonial gun.

The sources noted that Cruise was even allowed to fly in by helicopter.

Cruise spoke during a television interview of his admiration for the queen before he appeared as part of the Platinum Jubilee's Gallop Through History equine pageant in May.

The actor said at the time that Queen Elizabeth was a woman that he greatly admires, adding that he thinks she is "someone who has tremendous dignity" and that he admires her devotion."

Cruise said what the queen accomplished "has been historic."
