Are you one of those lottery players waiting for the drawing of the record-setting Powerball $1.9 billion jackpot on Monday night? Here's what you need to know.

The winning numbers for Powerball's $1.9 billion jackpot were not drawn on the supposed schedule. The Powerball drawing still had not taken place as of 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

At 11 p.m. EST on Monday, lottery host Laura Johnson has already told television viewers that the drawing for the $1.9 billion Powerball has been delayed due to a "technical problem."

In a statement issued late Monday night, the California Lottery said the delay was caused by "a participating lottery needing extra time to complete the required security protocols."

It noted that "Powerball has strict security requirements that must be met by all 48 lotteries before a drawing can occur," CNN reported.

Powerball officials put out another statement to further explained that the delay was caused by a participating lottery that needs more time to process its sales and play data. The statement noted that Powerball requires all 48 participating lotteries to submit their sales and play data before the winning numbers are selected.

"Powerball has stringent security requirements to protect the integrity of the game and remains committed to holding a drawing that gives all players a fair chance to win," the officials said. They added that official results of the Powerball drawing are expected on Tuesday morning "due to the length of the draw delay."

The California Lottery said the drawing will be performed under the supervision of lottery security officials and independent auditors, and the winning numbers will be posted to the Powerball website and YouTube channel "as soon as they are available," The Hill reported.

"Players should hold onto their tickets," it added, as no winners were anounced on Monday night. According to Nexstar's WEHT, a similar issue delayed Powerball drawings in April and a couple of weeks ago.

A Powerball drawing last summer was also delayed to allow several lotteries extra time to complete security protocols, Nexstar's WCBD reported.

Powerball Tickets Online Depends on Where You Live

The Powerball jackpot reaches a record-breaking $1.9 billion after more than 30 draws without winners in the past three months. A Powerball frenzy is engulfing the country. Aside from waiting in line at gas stations and grocery stores, many lottery players purchased their tickets online.

So, here's how you can purchased lottery tickets online, but it depends on where you live. In Colorado, New Jersey, New York and Texas, Powerball players can use Lotto.com to buy tickets and receive digital confirmations of their purchases.

TheLotter Oregon, a courier service, is also available for Oregon residents. The state lottery in Oklahoma and Indiana allows you to create your ticket on its app, but you must go to a store or a lottery vending machine to print your ticket.

Some state lotteries sell tickets on their websites, such as in Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Dakota, North Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Online ticket sales are also available for lottery players in Washington, D.C.

Most of these states require lottery players to register or create an account with them before they can buy draws. According to The Hill, California, Connecticut, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Mississippi, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas do not offer lottery players the opportunity to buy Powerball tickets online.

How to Proceed After Winning the $1.9 Billion Powerball Jackpot?

The Powerball $1.9 billion jackpot beat the previous record of $1.586 billion in 2016. California Lottery spokesperson Carolyn Becker told FOX 11 what a Powerball player should do after winning the big jackpot. Becker's first advice was do not lose the winning ticket.

"You cannot claim that prize without your ticket. Put it somewhere safe," Becker noted. She also said winners should be careful about who they tell, especially if they win the jackpot.

She also suggested that people who play the lottery get help from experts when making financial decisions. Becker noted that the Powerball winning numbers holder has a year to come forward, and officials will go through a rigorous process after that.

"It takes weeks, if not months... Everybody needs a little patience for how this one's going to end," she said. California Lottery also has a handbook for winners that also provides tips for those who win the big prize money.
