Bob Marley's grandson and Stephen Marley's son, Joseph Mersa Marley, also known as Jo Mersa Marley, has died at age 31 after being found unresponsive inside his vehicle.

A representative for Jo Mersa confirmed to Rolling Stone that the singer had passed away. Jamaican politician and president of the People's National Party Mark J. Golding tweeted his condolences after hearing the news of Jo Mersa's death.

"I've just learned of the tragic loss of Joseph' Jo Mersa' Marley. A talented young reggae artiste, son of Stephen Marley & grandson of Bob Marley at only 31 yrs old. The loss of a child is a devastating blow no parent should face, my condolences to Stephen & the entire family," he wrote.

Jo Mersa Marley was raised in a musical family and even performed onstage as a kid with his dad Stephen, uncle Ziggy, and aunts Sharon and Cadella..The Jamaican-American reggae family group is called Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2014, Jo Mersa said he and his cousin Daniel Bambaata Marley, Ziggy's son, frequently had to perform the Melody Makers' 1989 song "Look Who is Dancing."

Bob Marley's Grandson, Jo Mersa Marley, Cause of Death

Abka Fitz-Henley, a journalist from Kingston, Jamaica, was the first to report about the death of the Jamaican-American music artist and DJ on Tuesday.

According to Yahoo, although the official cause of death has yet to be disclosed, South Florida's radio station WZPP reported that Jo Mersa Marley died of an asthma attack.

Jo Mersa was born on March 12, 1991, in Kingston, Jamaica. He was raised by a musical family and made his stage debut with his father and the Melody Makers when he was just four years old.

Starting in middle school, Jo Mersa began writing songs, and in 2010, he debuted with "My Girl," a collaboration with his cousin Daniel Bambaata Marley.

He released his debut extended play (EP) named "Comfortable," in 2014, and his second EP, 2017's "Eternal," was his most recent. 

In an interview with Reggaeville last year, Bob Marley's grandson spoke candidly about his grandfather and reflected on his legacy and influence.

"Family-wise, you would hear memories from my father or from our uncles... talking about 'I remember when Daddy did this or when he came from Africa or when Daddy did this interview or when he was in Italy.' So, we always hear those reflections... about the role that he [Bob] played not only as family member and father but also in the world and the impact he had on the reggae community and the reggae culture, the roots, bringing forward the message of Rastafari and love," Jo Mersa noted as Yahoo reported.

Bob Marley passed away in 1981 at 36. The late reggae superstar died from an acral lentiginous melanoma, a form of skin cancer.

Jamaica Prime Minister Mourns Jo Mersa Marley's Death

After hearing of Jo Mersa Marley's passing, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed his condolences, tweeting, "My heartfelt sympathies to Joseph's friends and associates and to the Reggae music fraternity and fans everywhere."

The politician went on to say that Jo Mersa's tragic death is a huge loss to the music of the future generation, ET Online reported.

Holness posted a follow-up tweet wishing the artist of eternal peace as the public mourns his loss during this season when families and friends celebrate love for each other.
