After a two-year struggle with cancer, actor Annie Wersching, known for her performances on "24" and "Bosch" and for creating the character of Tess in the 2013 video game "The Last of Us," has passed away. She was 45.

A GoFundMe page was established to raise money for Wersching's family revealed the actor's death, according to Variety.

Julie Plec, showrunner of "The Vampire Diaries," Alexi Hawley, showrunner of "The Rookie," and Neil Druckmann, creative director of "The Last of Us," have all shared the ad.

Plec tweeted, "I became a fan from '24' and was lucky to be able to have Annie play mama to two of the hottest vamps in town."

"We just lost a beautiful artist and human being. My heart is shattered," Druckmann wrote.

Annie Wersching Career

Throughout the 2010s, Wersching was a mainstay on numerous television dramas. She portrayed Amelia Joffe in the ABC soap opera "General Hospital" in 2007.

It was a big break for her when she played FBI agent Renee Walker on the hit Fox show "24" in 2008 with Kiefer Sutherland in the seventh and eighth seasons, CNN noted.

Wersching has also appeared as the antagonistic vampire Lily Salvatore on the CW's "The Vampire Diaries" and as the romantic interest of Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) on Amazon Prime's "Bosch" (2014-present).

She also played the Borg Queen in 2022's "Star Trek Picard," where she routinely posted images of herself on set dressed as the villain, thanks to the makeup and prosthetics specialists who helped bring her character to life.

According to IMDb, Wersching's final acting credit was in the Paramount+ series "Star Trek Picard."

Some of her 24 co-stars, including Kiefer Sutherland, rejoined her for an episode of Sutherland's FOX series "Touch" in 2013.

Annie Wersching also had a two-episode arc as the former love interest of Billy Burke's character on Eric Kripke's "Revolution" on NBC, which reunited her with the "Supernatural" creator.

Wersching is best known for her work on television, but she has also provided her voice for video games. Her most recent video game role was as a character in Bioware's Anthem, an online action role-playing game released in 2019.

However, she rose to prominence after lending her voice to "The Last of Us," a video game developed by Naughty Dog. She played Tess, a fellow post-apocalyptic survivor and smuggling accomplice of the game's protagonist, Joel Miller.

Wersching's husband told a touching story in a statement Sunday.

"As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye my Buddie. 'I love you, little family,'" the statement read.

Annie Wersching Early Life

Wersching, a native of St. Louis, began her performance career at an early age, participating in both musical theater and competitive Irish dance before attending Millikin University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre in 1999, per The Hollywood Reporter.

She lived in Chicago and went on tour with "Anything Goes" and "A Christmas Carol," finally performing at prestigious venues such as the Chicago Victory Gardens, the Marriott Lincolnshire, and the Utah Shakespearean Festival.

Before getting her first TV role on "Star Trek: Enterprise," she moved to Los Angeles in 2021 to pursue her career as a theatrical performer in the Pasadena Playhouse revival of "Do I Hear A Waltz?"
