During the World Cup in Qatar, the usually calm and collected Lionel Messi became very angry at his Dutch opponents, even going so far as calling Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst a "fool" during an interview. Now, the Argentina star speaks out about the now-infamous clash.

The Argentinian spoke to infobae about the incident and said, "Everything that came out was natural, a lot had happened on the field with that player in reality and a couple more."

He added that there was tension, friction, and crossing during that moment.

During the incident, Messi can be seen by cameras calling somebody "bobo" or "fool" off-camera. It turns out that he was calling out Wout Weghorst who was approaching Messi at that time.

"What are you looking at fool? Get back there," Messi told the Dutchman as he was getting interviewed by reporters.

Wout Weghorst Calls Lionel Messi 'Rude'

The Netherlands vs. Argentina match was a very emotional one, made infamous when the match's Spanish referee kept on handing out red and yellow cards to players from both sides. It became so heated that it almost resulted in an all-out brawl between the Argentinians and the Dutch.

This made the players even more emotional, even the mostly-stoic and quiet Lionel Messi, who was trash-talking the Dutch players and coaches during the later portions of the game.

Weghorst, who just scored a deal with Manchester United after impressing them with his actions during the World Cup, admitted he was "disappointed" with the Paris Saint-Germaine superstar.

According to The Mirror, the Dutchman claimed that Messi was "rude" to him and refused to shake his hand when he told him to go back.

"I went to shake his hand after the game. He has not accepted it and has said something rude to me, but I do not understand Spanish very well. I'm very disappointed," Weghorst said as he told his side of the story.

Lionel Messi Also Clashed With Netherlands Boss Louis Van Gaal

The emotions in the Netherlands vs. Argentina match in Qatar were running so high that Messi even had a confrontation with Netherlands Boss Louis Van Gaal and his assistant, Edgar Davis, and that incident was captured on camera.

After scoring a penalty goal, Messi went to the Netherlands benches and cupped his ears at Van Gaal. The Dutch boss stated earlier before the match that he has already drawn up plans to stop Messi.

He added, "But it's not that difficult to come up with an answer as to how to stop him. You might want to block and close the passing lines. I can't see this creating too much of a hoo-ha."

Messi kept talking trash against Van Gaal even after Argentina has already won, according to The Mirror. He told one reporter, "Van Gaal says that they play good football, but what he did was put tall people and hit long balls."

Messi seems to have been triggered by Van Gaal's pre-match comments, and former Argentina playmaker Riquelme chimed in and stated that the Netherlands boss said something he should not have had.
