Recently retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady caught flak after his statement about Janet Jackson, wherein he said that the pop star's infamous Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction was "probably a good thing" for the football league.

Brady recalled the incident during a new episode of his "Let's Go!" podcast with former NFL player Larry Fitzgerald and sportscaster Jim Gray, as reported by The Independent.

The former NFL quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went on to say that he did not see anything at the time as he was thinking about the game.

He then said that they had figured out what had happened. Brady then said that it was "probably a good thing for NFL" as everybody talked about it and had more publicity for halftime shows.

Brady then continued his rhetoric by asking, "is any publicity bad publicity?"

Jackson said the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction had her songs banned from radio and was called "Nipplegate."

Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake, who was performing with Jackson at the time, has seen his career take off.

Tom Brady's Janet Jackson Statement

Brady was criticized shortly after his comment, with some Twitter users calling it "shallow" for not considering how the wardrobe malfunction affected Jackson's career.

One user said that they do not think Brady understands the "amount of s*** she went through after the Super Bowl halftime accident," as cited by Fox News.

Another said that Jackson's career and legacy were "nearly destroyed," and Brady can only talk about the "publicity of the NFL" after 19 years.

Jackson said in her Lifetime documentary that the malfunction should not have happened, and she refused an offer from Timberlake to join him on another Super Bowl halftime show in 2018 as she did not want to dig up the past.

One user tweeted that it was indeed "very bad publicity" for Jackson, adding that he knows Brady "got paid to get hit in the head repeatedly for 50 years."

Janet Jackson Super Bowl Wardrobe Malfunction

The Super Bowl halftime show has been a popular segment, with performances from famous artists pushing viewers to watch.

In 2004, Timberlake and Jackson were performing "Rock Your Body" when the former proceeded to pull off a part of her costume, which resulted in her right breast being briefly exposed to more than 140 million TV audiences.

A Patriots linebacker at the time, Trevor Reilly, asked whether the whole thing was planned or not. However, neither artist has come forward and admitted that it was staged.

Jackson was the first woman to perform in a Super Bowl halftime show.

Many investigations and debates have taken place on whether the "Nipplegate" was planned or not and whether it was made in an office or between the artists themselves.

In Jackson's documentary, she revealed that they had "moved on" from the Super Bowl incident, calling for everyone to do the same.

Jackson also noted that she and Timberlake are very good friends and will always remain so.
