Mexican actor and director Diego Luna was born in Mexico City on December 29, 1979. His parents were well-known in theater and film design, so he spent much of his childhood in that environment.

Luna started performing as a child in the early 1980s when he was cast in the soap "El Abuelo y yo" with his good friend and fellow actor Gael García Bernal.

After reuniting with Bernal in the smash hit "Y Tu Mama Tambien," Luna became a household name worldwide. Since then, he has been all over the place, working on big-budget Hollywood movies and smaller independent films both in the U.S. and Mexico.

Diego Luna's first role on TV was as Luis in the Mexican telenovela "El abuelo y yo," which aired in 1992 and he got his second role on TV in the telanovela "El premio mayor" in 1995.

Almost four years later, he played the role of Eugenio Román Franco in the blockbuster Mexican television series "La vida en el espejo."

Luna also starred as Renato Guitart on "Fidel" in 2002, and his voice was heard narrating the 2010 documentary series "Great Migrations," per Inspirationfeed.

Luna made his movie debut as Ramón in "A Sweet Scent of Death," which came out in 1999. In "Before Night Falls," which was released the following year, he played Carlos.

It was in the 2001 film "Y Tu Mamá También" that Luna really found success in the cinema industry. The movie was well-received by critics and audiences alike. 

Luna's performance in the film catapulted him to fame worldwide. He played roles in "Frida and Vampires: Los Muertos" in 2002. In the following year, he made appearances in the films "Nicotina," "Soldados de Salamina," and "Open Range."

Success continued to follow Diego Luna in 2004. Three of the films in which he starred - "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights," "The Terminal," and "Criminal" - were huge commercial successes.

Luna made appearances in three films in 2006: "Only God Knows," "Fade to Black," and "Un world maravilloso." The following year, he was featured in two blockbuster movies: "El bfalo de la noche" and "Mister Lonely."

The Mexican actor also appeared in "Elysium," in 2013 and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" in 2015  Luna has received over five significant awards, mostly for his film and television works.

In addition to the Marcello Mastroianni Award, Critics' Choice Award, Imagen Award, Audience Award, and Platino Award, Luna has also won two MTV Movie Awards.
