Beloved actor Meshach Taylor passed away at his Southern California home on Saturday. He suffered from colorectal cancer and was 67 years old.

"He fought valiantly and died surrounded by his loving family," his agent Dede Binder told Reuters.

Taylor shot to fame after appearing on the CBS sitcom "Designing Women" as ex-con turned fashion house partner Anthony Bouvier. The show was about 'southern belle' type fashion designers working together in Atlanta, Georgia. Meshach Taylor starred alongside Dixie Carter, Delta Burke, Annie Potts and Jean Smart.

Taylor was also a staple on another CBS sitcom, "Dave's World," which ran in the early to mid 1990s. Based on the writings of Miami Herald columnist Dave Barry, the series dramatized what is was like to be a newsman. Taylor played the role of Dr. Sheldon Baylor on the program.

Yet, Taylor's career wasn't solely devoted to the small screen. He was equally well-known for playing Hollywood Montrose, a flamboyant window dresser, in the 1987 romantic comedy fantasy film "Mannequin."

Taylor was born and bred in Boston on April 11, 1947. But in order to fulfill his dreams of becoming an actor, he had to move west, first to Chicago, where he was part of the award-winning Goodman Theatre.

In 1978, Taylor completed his journey westward, landing in Los Angeles in 1978 in order to maximize his potential as an actor. Judging by all the shows and movies he appeared in and the lives he touched, Taylor had a superb run for the past 30 plus years.

Meshach Taylor will be sorely missed. He's survived by his longtime wife Bianca and their four children, Tamar, Esme, Yasmin and Tariq.
