Brad Raffensperger, Georgia's top election official, is set to meet with January 6 investigators. The news comes as investigators have reportedly interviewed former Donald Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani. Meanwhile, the Senate has found shocking new information regarding the January 6 Capitol insurrection.

Raffensperger, a Republican serving as Georgia's secretary of state, is expected to be asked about his January 2021 phone call with then-President Donald Trump. The call was part of the former president's efforts to overturn President Joe Biden's victory in the state as he reportedly asked Raffensperger to "find" enough votes to reverse the outcome.

Trump has insisted that his phone call with the Georgia election official was "perfect" and did not do anything wrong. He has been denying any wrongdoing on anything regarding January 6 and continues to claim that the election was "rigged" against him.

According to Reuters, this is one of two high-profile investigations into Donald Trump that are being overseen by Special Counsel Jack Smith. The other case he is overseeing is the classified documents case in which he has already filed over 30 criminal charges against the former president.

Raffensberger has so far been cooperating with the various investigations into the Trump call, including the separate Fulton County investigation by DA Fani Willis into Trump's election meddling in Georgia.

January 6 Investigators Have Already Interviewed Former Trump Attorney Rudy Giuliani

The January 6 case now seems to be finally moving forward as a source familiar with the investigation has told the Associated Press that investigators have already spoken to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was Trump's lawyer at the time of the capitol riot.

The AP source noted that Giuliani voluntarily got interviewed but that was not done before a grand jury. It was not clear what the investigators asked him, though Giuliani had been central in the former president's election meddling efforts in key battleground states.

Giuliani had been pushing conspiracy theories across right-wing media, as well as filing bogus legal challenges to the presidential election results. He had been claiming that there was widespread fraud during the 2020 presidential elections, though these claims had been disproven several times in court.

Much like Trump, Giuliani had also been calling various election officials in the effort to overturn the election result in key battleground states. He was previously forced to testify before the Georgia grand jury in connection to Trump's election meddling in the state.

Prosecutors from the Justice Department have been looking into Trump lawyers, including Giuliani, for their roles in trying to undo the elections.

Senate Democrats Reveal January 6 Findings

Meanwhile, as Jack Smith's investigations are looking into Georgia and Trump attorneys, the Senate Homeland Security Committee has released it report that found that the January 6 Capitol Insurrection "essentially planned in plain sight on social media." Despite this, however, Trump's FBI and Department of Homeland Security "completely dropped the ball."

The committee, led by Senate Democrats, found that internal communications from the FBI and DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis have shown that "top officials either ignored or dismissed clear indicators of potential violence by pro-Trump actors ahead of the US Capitol attack," This left law enforcement, especially the outmanned Capitol Police, completely unprepared and overrun by the Pro-Trump mob.

The Senate report also found that both agencies "obtained multiple tips from numerous sources in the days and weeks leading up to the attack that should have raised alarms." This included a December 2020 tip regarding the Proud Boys. The tip reportedly stated, "[t]heir plan is to literally kill people" and added, "Please, please take this tip seriously and investigate further."
