Former President Donald Trump is facing more bad news as Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel files charges against 16 of his fake electors in the state. These 16 Donald Trump fake electors were brought in by his allies to help overturn the results of the 2020 elections and hand him victory in Michigan.

Nessel said that the actions of these Donald Trump fake electors "undermined the public's faith" in election integrity. Her office has now charged each of them with eight felony counts, which include forgery and conspiracy to commit forgery. Each of these crimes may land the fake electors up to 14 years in prison.

This would be the first time anybody was charged in connection to Donald Trump's fake electors scheme as the ones in Georgia agreed to help out in the investigation and took immunity deals.

The plot to have fake electors vote for Donald Trump at the state Capitol instead of the real ones voting for the state's true winner, Joe Biden, was called an "orchestrated plan" in the hope of flipping the state's winner, according to BBC News. However, Nessel pointed out that "This was a lie. They weren't duly elected electors and each of the defendants knew it."

"They carried out these actions with the hope and belief that the electoral votes of Michigan's 2020 election would be awarded to the candidate of their choosing, instead of the candidate Michigan voters actually chose," said the Michigan DA.

Top Republican State Officers Among the 16 Donald Trump Fake Electors Charged in Michigan

Some of these 16 fake electors in Michigan are not ordinary Trump supporters, however, as some of them hold high positions in the local Republican Party. Among those charged by DA Nessel includes the head of the Republican National Committee's chapter in Michigan, Kathy Berden.

According to the Associated Press, also charged among the 16 Donald Trump fake electors is Meshawn Maddock, the former co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, as well as Shelby Township Clerk Stan Grot.

One of those charged, John Haggard, 82, believes he did nothing wrong. However, GOP state Sen. Ed McBroom, who served as the chairman of the GOP-led Senate panel to investigate Michigan's 2020 presidential election, stated that he spoke with the fake electors and stated that the effort was organized by "people who put themselves in a position of authority and posing themselves as the ones who knew what they were doing."

Arizona Also Investigating Donald Trump Fake Electors

Michigan is just one of seven key battleground states where Trump and his allies employed the fake electors scheme. One of them is in Arizona where the state is currently holding an inquiry into similar alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election in the state. The investigation includes looking into the state's fake electors.

According to MSNBC. Arizona Republicans signed documents falsely proclaiming themselves to be electors in the state. They were planning to take over and give Arizona's electoral votes to Donald Trump.

However, Arizona AG Kris Mayes assigned a team of prosecutors to the case in May, and investigators have contacted many of the pro-Trump electors and their lawyers."

Much like the ones in Michigan, the fake Arizona electors could face various charges, including forgery, tampering with a public record, and impersonating a public servant.
