Brutal Attack on Wisconsin College Student Could Be a Stranger Assault

Police Chief Shon Barnes has taken significant steps to mobilize a comprehensive array of law enforcement resources, including collaborative efforts with university partners, to meticulously investigate the incident.

Initial assessments point toward the incident being a stranger assault, WKOW reports.

Assistant Chief Paige Valenta has confirmed that the investigation is preliminary.

This crucial stage encompasses multifaceted tasks, such as conducting witness interviews, gathering evidentiary material, capturing photographic evidence, meticulously documenting the scene, and collecting pertinent biological samples.

Moreover, the Madison Police Department is urging residents living near the incident to come forward if they possess security cameras on their property.

Individuals are encouraged to connect with the department or Crime Stoppers. The police are particularly interested in reviewing video footage captured between 2 AM and 4 AM, even if the content appears inconspicuous.

Barnes stressed that seemingly mundane recordings could hold pivotal information contributing to the case's resolution. The community's active participation is paramount in aiding the investigation's progress.

In an appeal to the public, Chief Barnes emphasized that what may seem insignificant to one person could hold the key to breaking the case.

He invited anyone in the area to share their experiences, encouraging them to recount their daily routines or activities.

During this ongoing investigative phase, Assistant Chief Valenta underscored the importance of personal safety.

With the perpetrator still at large, she recommended vigilance and proactive measures.

Her advice included walking with a companion, maintaining situational awareness, informing someone about your whereabouts, trusting your instincts, and swiftly removing oneself from potentially hazardous situations.

As the investigation unfolds, the victim's well-being remains a primary concern.

Officers have not yet had the opportunity to converse with her, as she is currently undergoing medical treatment for her injuries.

Barnes emphasized that information from the victim will only be accessible once her condition stabilizes.
