The New York Police Department announced that it arrested Marvel villain and Creed III actor Jonathan Majors on Saturday after a woman accused him of assault during a domestic dispute.

The woman told NYPD officers that the actor assaulted her and was taken to the hospital with "minor injuries to her head and neck." A police statement revealed that they received a 911 call around 11:14 a.m., according to Variety.

"A preliminary investigation determined that a 33-year-old male was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old female," the NYPD statement read. "The victim informed police she was assaulted. Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was removed to an area hospital in stable condition."

The male was identified as the popular Marvel actor, attracting even more attention to the alleged domestic dispute. Majors is now facing several potential charges following the incident, including "strangulation," "assault," and "harassment."

Jonathan Majors Lawyer Said Actor Did Nothing Wrong

The actor's criminal defense lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter. She stated that her client is completely innocent and added that he is "probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows."

"We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently," the lawyer said in a statement, and added, "All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever."

Evidence of the alleged assault is currently being collected, including video footage from the vehicle where the incident took place, as well as witness testimony and even alleged statements from the woman recanting her allegations.

The lawyer also suggested that the altercation was a result of a mental health incident involving the woman.

Jonathan Majors Was Released from Police Custody on Saturday

As for the arrest, the marvel actor's lawyer stated, "The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested."

The BBC pointed out that this arrest came just a few weeks after Jonathan Majors presented an Oscar alongside Creed III co-star and fellow Marvel villain Michael B. Jordan. The critically-acclaimed film that is part of the Rocky franchise was released in the United States earlier this month.

Shortly after he was arrested, the actor, who is best known for his role as Marvel villain Kang the Conqueror in the Disney+ series, "Loki," as well as the recently-released "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania." was released from custody the very same day, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

As for what his relationship was with the unidentified 30-year-old woman whom he has allegedly beaten up, it was described as only "domestic." The NYPD is still investigating the matter, so no major developments have been reported thus far.
