Broncos safety Kareem Jackson has been suspended for four games without pay following his ejection from Denver's recent game against the Green Bay Packers, according to CBS Sports.

Jackson's ejection resulted from an illegal hit on Packers rookie tight end Luke Musgrave, as announced by NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan.

The suspension is based on violations of Rule 12, Section 2, Article 9 (b)(1), which pertains to player safety, specifying that a foul occurs when a player forcibly hits a defenseless player's head or neck area with their helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, even if the initial contact is lower than the player's neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses their arms to tackle the defenseless player.

Jackson intends to appeal the suspension, as reported by NFL Media. The play in question took place with just under 14 minutes remaining in regulation on Sunday.

After Luke Musgrave caught an 18-yard pass from Jordan Love, Jackson, appearing to lead with the crown of his helmet, struck Musgrave and knocked him to the ground. Following a discussion among officials and the imposition of a 15-yard penalty, Jackson was ejected from the game.

Why Is Kareem Jackson Suspended?

This suspension follows Jackson's involvement in multiple illegal hits this season, resulting in fines from the league totaling nearly $90,000. The suspension, however, could prove more costly, per Predominantly Orange.

The length of the suspension, four games, has sparked debate, as it appears to be relatively long.

Comparatively, Alvin Kamara was suspended for just three games this season after being involved in a brawl in Las Vegas that left someone seriously injured.

The league's decision to impose a lengthier suspension on Jackson is seen by some as an attempt to make an example of him and address the style of play that has been deemed irresponsible this season.

Jackson's actions resulted in injuries to Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and Commanders tight end Logan Thomas, both of whom missed a game due to concussion-like symptoms.

Kareem Jackson Suspended: What Games Will He Miss?

If Jackson's four-game suspension is upheld, he will be absent from Denver's games against the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, and Cleveland Browns, with eligibility to return to the active roster on Monday, November 27, ESPN noted.

Broncos players, including head coach Sean Payton, have expressed differing views on the nature of Jackson's hit, with some believing he led with his shoulder and made contact slightly below the head and neck area.

Kareem Jackson's suspension marks one of the longest punishments for player-safety rule violations since 2019, when Myles Garrett was suspended indefinitely for hitting Mason Rudolph with the quarterback's helmet, ultimately missing six games.

In the same year, Vontaze Burfict received a 12-game suspension for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Jack Doyle, attributed to his repeated violations of unnecessary roughness rules.
