Apple's Find my iPhone application went through an update Thursday and momentarily locked out its users.

The Find my iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Mac application was updated Thursday and is now version 2.0.3. Apple updated the Find my iPhone app for iOS with a new flat design, says Technology Tell.

The new icon design consists of a flatter and lighter green "sonar design." The previous icon design came in dark green with a thicker black border. The previous icon design also had the picture of a square on the right side of the dark green sonar which indicates a located object.

Users who downloaded the update, however, encountered problems with the application. According to TechCrunch, the new Find my iPhone 2.0.3 app locked out users on iOS 6 who don't have registered developer accounts or those who don't have iOS 7 installed and configured on one of their devices with their iCloud accounts.

Users who updated their Find my iPhone app and tried to log in got the following message:

"Developer Account Required. You must be a registered iOS developer and have iCloud configured on iOS 7.0 Beta to use this version of Find my iPhone."

According to Apple's system status page, the issue was reported Friday 2:40 am. The system page read: "Users of version 2.0.3 of the Find my iPhone iOS app were temporarily unable to sign in." The issue lasted until 3:35 am.

The lockout disabled users from finding MobileMe service registered Apple devices. Because of the problem, users were advised to refrain from updating their Find my iPhone app until the issue was fixed.

Fortunately, Apple was quick to act on the problem and now, the Find my iPhone 2.0.3 version is running smoothly. As of this writing, there has been no official statement from Apple yet as to what caused the issue.

The app was initially launched in 2010 for MobileMe, a paid subscription-based collection of online services and software.
