Charlie Hunnam is interested in the upcoming "Pacific Rim" sequel.

In an interview with Zap2It this week, Hunnam, who starred as Raleigh Becket in the original 2013 film, revealed that is he excited about the recently-announced follow-up film that features Guillermo del Toro reprising his role as director and Zak Penn ("X-Men: The Last Stand") as writer.

"They're moving forward slowly," Hunnam said. "Nothing's guaranteed, but I think [del Toro and Penn are] going to get the script delivered in about a month or something, and then I think they'll probably know more clearly how they feel about moving forward. There's certainly a pretty healthy level of enthusiasm at this point."

The "Sons of Anarchy" star discussed the direction that he would like to see the "Pacific Rim" sequel take.

"I'm interested to see what the period of peace after the war looks like, and what these guys do and how the world would react," Hunnam explained. "One of the things I love most about 'Pac Rim' was the idea that we all kind of dropped our petty differences to fight the monsters at our door, literally."

Hunnam, however, does not have any inside knowledge about the plot of the upcoming film.

"I'm interested to see if -- I don't know if they will -- once that threat is diminished, what the sociopolitical landscape would look like," he continued. "I'm sure literally the last breath of the last Kaiju we'll be back to fighting each other."

In an interview with Shock Till You Drop, del Toro teased that the sequel will delve more into the world of the Kaijus, but he would not reveal much more.

"I will not answer that. I take the fifth," the Mexican director said when asked if the movie would take viewers into the mysterious world. "... You're asking the right questions but not necessarily the way you think. If you think, 'Are we invading their world?' we're not, but we're showing more of that world."

"Pacific Rim 2" hits theaters April 7, 2017.
