The Cleveland Cavaliers signed 2014 first overall pick Andrew Wiggins to a rookie contract, the team announced on Thursday.

Cavaliers general manager David Griffin, who also announced that second-round pick Joe Harris agreed to a three-year deal on Thursday, did not disclose the terms of the deal, but ESPN reported that the 19-year-old rookie inked a four-year deal with a starting salary of $5.5 million next season.

Wiggins has been mentioned in trade talks between the Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves, but Thursday's signing will prevent Cleveland from trading the former Kansas standout until Aug. 23 or 30 days after signing his rookie contract.

Previous reports indicated that the Cavaliers, who are making a push to acquire Kevin Love, are offering Wiggins, 2013 first overall pick Anthony Bennett, and a future first-round pick to the Timberwolves in exchange for the All-Star forward.

Sources indicated that the Cavaliers are still the frontrunners in the race to acquire Love despite strong offers from the Chicago Bulls and the Golden State Warriors.

Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor is reportedly high on Wiggins, but ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported that the 30-day waiting period could put a possible trade in jeopardy.

"The Cavaliers remain the front-runner in the Love trade sweepstakes after signing Wiggins, sources close to the process told ESPN.com. The Wolves' preference, based on the offers made for Love to date, is completing a trade with Cleveland centered on Wiggins. But the 30-day window leaves open the possibility that another team could step in with an offer to trump Cleveland's best pitch," Windhorst noted.

The Timberwolves are also intrigued by Chicago's pitch for Love. The Bulls are reportedly offering Taj Gibson along with promising rookies Nikola Mirotic and Doug McDermott in exchange for Love.

The Warriors could also re-emerge as the frontrunners in the race to acquire Love, while the Cavaliers are waiting for the 30-day waiting period to end. Sources said that the Warriors could trump the Cavs should they agree to part ways with Klay Thompson in a deal for Love.

But as Windhorst noted, the Timberwolves view Cleveland's offer as the best on the table with sources indicating that they are convinced that Wiggins will eventually become a superstar and perennial All-Star in the league.
