First lady Michelle Obama is rallying up the Democratic base in effort to increase voter turnout in the upcoming midterm elections.

Historically, voter turnout in the Democratic Party has always been much lower during non-presidential elections. However, Obama released a new video urging Democrats to be "even more passionate and more hungry" than they were during the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections.

According to the Huffington Post, the video was released on YouTube as part of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's effort to collect 1 million voter commitments ahead of November's election.

"When it comes to the midterm elections this November, we need you to be as passionate and as hungry as you were back in 2008 and 2012," the first lady said. "In fact you need to be even more passionate and more hungry to get Democrats elected to Congress because these elections will be even harder and even closer than those presidential elections."

She went on to say that President Obama can only successfully fight for equal pay for women, immigration reform and a minimum wage increase with the support of congressional leaders "who will work with him."

She stressed the importance of each vote during the upcoming elections, adding that the elections could be determined by thousands or even hundreds of votes.

The first lady also called on Democrats to pledge their commitment to vote and register 1 million vote pledges.

"Together we want to reach 1 million new voter commitments by Election Day because, it's simple: you deserve a Congress that will work for you and your family," she said.

Voters who fill out the onemillionvotesfor2014.com pledge are prompted to provide the DCCC with more information and share their pledge on social media networks. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is the fundraising arm for House Democrats.
