Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult were getting back together last summer, and now they have announced their split.

E! News reported that the two have broken up, but it "was very amicable."

"They spent a lot of time apart because of work, and it was difficult on their relationship," a source said.

The last time they were spotted together was in late April. They met up with designer Tom Ford for lunch.

Lawrence had previously explained to Marie Claire that she and Hoult were together but lived very separate lives because of their schedules.

"When we're busy, we agree to mutually ignore each other," she said. "Not completely, but neither of us gets mad when the other doesn't text back or call. Life's super busy. Obviously you know what they're doing, and you trust them."

In the same interview, she denied that the two were engaged because she was trying to take things slowly.

"We're so young that it would almost be like if we lived in the same city, what would happen?" she said. "We'd be living together. At least this way he's in the same boat as I am: We can go out have our own lives and know that we have each other."

An Australian gossip site seems to believe that Hoult and Lawrence split because he grew tired of her "exploded ego."

"Jen is still desperately trying to get back with Nicholas after he broke up with her," a source told the site. "They're still talking but Nicholas is moving on. He hates how in love with fame Jen is, and he told her he hates dating an A-list actress."

Supposedly, Lawrence was hurt by these comments because she has worked hard for her career, and she is proud of what she has accomplished.
