Since its July 24 debut, the trailer for the highly anticipated "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie saw 36.4 million views on YouTube, according to a July 28 report by The Hollywood Reporter citing data from technology firm Zefr. The trailer was reportedly released at that date so it could play with the previews aired before "Lucy," which hit theaters on July 25.

The day the trailer was released, it was the most-watched trailer on YouTube, creating a buzz "simply unprecedented," Ben Carlson, who works for social network tracker Fizziology, told Deadline.

The numbers make the footage the most-viewed trailer of 2014. Before the "Fifty Shades of Grey" trailer dropped, the title was held by the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" trailer, which saw 31 million views in the days following its March debut.

On Aug. 1, Deadline reported that the trailer saw the biggest launch in Universal Studio's history.

"'Fifty Shades Of Grey' trailers are pulling monumental views," Marc Karzen, CEO of social media analyst RelishMIX, said.

In its first week, the trailer was watched via Universal Studio's official YouTube channel more than 13 million times, plus an additional 19.3 million times on the studio's U.K. channel.

"Add to that ripped and reposted versions on movie fan channels," Karzen said. "It's unprecedented for a film that's six months out."

Universal Studios reports that 13 million views came via platforms like Apple, IMDb and Yahoo, and 900,000 more viewers watched the trailer via unofficial YouTube uploads. In addition, the studio's U.S. and international Facebook pages got the trailer 40 million more views, and Beyonce's Facebook page led to the trailer being shared 222,000 times.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" hits theaters Feb. 13, 2015.

This week, Rita Ora, who plays Mia Grey, the sister of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), told Access Hollywood that the movie is a good representation of E.L. James' novel of the same name.

"The movie is as close as it can visually be," she said. "I think the actors are phenomenal in this. I'm just really honored to be on the same kind of wave length as them. This being my first movie, it's pretty awesome."
