Miss Spain Patricia Yurena Rodriguez has revealed that she is a lesbian, making her the first national beauty queen to come out as gay.

Rodriguez, who won the title of Miss Spain in 2008, posted a romantic photo on Instagram late last week of herself with her girlfriend Vanessa Cortes, who is a musician and a DJ.

In the photo, Rodriquez is seen lying in bed while Cortes' is positioned on top of her and they are staring into each other's eyes.

The 24-year-old beauty, who is also the country's first Miss España contestant to win the pageant twice, captioned the picture writing: "Romeo and Juliet."

Two days later, she posted a message thanking her fans for their love and support, saying her decision to post the picture was spontaneous, reports E! News.

"I appreciate the outpouring of support and even more, to rejoice in my happiness," the beauty wrote, according to The Hollywood Gossip, adding, "Thank you!!"

On Sunday, she shared another romantic photo with her girlfriend together by the water.

"I don't regret what I did and I did it because I'm happy about what's going on in my life," Rodriguez told Spanish newspaper La Opinión de Tenerife.

She revealed to the Costa Rican newspaper La Nación that she and her girlfriend met through mutual friends last year, before the 2013 Miss Universe pageant. They began dating several months ago.

After winning Spain's national beauty pageant for the first time in 2008, Rodriguez went on to be crowned as Miss Spain again in 2013.

She then represented Spain in the Miss Universe competition, which was held in Moscow, Russia, where she was crowned as runner-up to winner up to Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler, the current Miss Universe title holder.
