A multi-vehicle accident in the Lincoln Tunnel Tuesday morning has left one person in critical condition, while at least seven others are injured.

According to the New York Post, a bus collided with two cars during the morning rush-hour around 8:30 a.m. in the Lincoln Tunnel, which connects Weehawken, New Jersey and Midtown Manhattan in New York City.

NBC New York reports that the crash occurred when "a passenger vehicle sped into the tunnel and collided with another passenger vehicle, which collided with the minibus."

One person involved in the crash is reportedly in cardiac arrest and at least three others suffered from non-life threatening injuries, said Port Authority Police.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman says the drivers of both passenger vehicles were injured, but none of the passengers on the bus were hurt, although one suffered from a panic attack after the crash.

"The patients were taken to New York as the bus accident took place closer to the N.Y. side of the tunnel," reports NJ.com. Meanwhile, drivers on the New Jersey side are facing severe traffic jams because the center tunnel was shut down so that officials can investigate the cause of the accident.

As a result, all New York City-bound traffic is being diverted to the south tube, which is expected to remain closed throughout most of the morning. Traffic 4 NY is reporting up to 90 minute delays to the toll plaza and traffic jams all the way to the New Jersey Turnpike.

Because the center tube of the Lincoln Tunnel has been closed, traffic is "very, very heavy," says North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Public Safety Director Jeff Welz.

"There's bumper-to-bumper traffic on local streets," said Welz, adding that: "the tunnel can't handle the volume of rush-hour traffic trying to get to New York City."
