Earlier this year, the highly popular American television series, "How I Met Your Mother," ended its run after nine seasons on CBS. The ending had Aunt Robin becoming a stepmother after the actual mother played by Cristin Milioti had passed away. However, a happier conclusion is portrayed in an official alternate ending that leaked online on Saturday, US Weekly reports.

The original finale to the much-loved show faced a lot of criticism online, and the alternate ending, while endearing, did not completely satisfy all fans, which is probably impossible. Based on online reactions, it would seem that many viewers loved it but were still not satisfied since it made no sense to them why producers did not choose to air this ending in the first place. According to some, it provided what everyone wanted, expected and deserved, and maybe the directors knew that too.

According to The Wrap, the sitcom ended in March and the alternate ending was supposed to come with the DVD box set of the show set to be released on Sept. 23, but the anticipated clip came out a bit earlier than it was supposed to. Some fans reported that the video leaked on the video sharing website Vimeo. It has since been removed, but of course, people online downloaded copies of their own and posted them on other websites.

CBS has not commented nor verified anything regarding the leaked footage.

Fans were surprised with the original ending of the nine-season comedy, sparking an online outrage that prompted many to come up with their own endings. The reactions were so bad that creator Carter Bays had to take to Twitter to give his explanation and some reasoning behind the ending.

According to his post, the writers created two endings and later on decided to choose the one that aired. Bays said that they chose the ending and that they stood by it, adding that they also loved the other one. Now it seems like everyone else loves the one that did not make it.
