Diego Boneta has sure moved past his geeky past as Rocco on "Rebelde."

The "Pretty Little Liars" actor is set to make his mark over the following year. Not only has he landed a role on CBS miniseries "The Dovekeepers," but he's also signed to Sony Music U.S. Latin.

"The Dovekeepers" is based on the novel written by Alice Hoffman. The historical drama focuses on four women during the Romans attempt to take Masada, a Jewish fortress. Boneta will be Amran, who will be "linked to two of the central female characters," notes Variety.

For his music deal, Boneta might have new music as early as 2015, notes Billboard.

He should be releasing music in both Spanish and English.

"Diego is a brand and music is an integral part of his artistic identity," said Nir Seroussi, the president of Sony Music U.S. Latin.

Boneta, who began taking voice lessons at age 8, was previously signed to Adam Levine's label, but he decided to move to Sony. He was on the reality show Codigo F.A.M.A., where he was a finalist.

"The idea is not to simply release an album but create a strategy that's congruent with my career," Boneta said. "Diego the actor and Diego the singer are managed completely separate from one another."

It seems Boneta has an idea of what he'd like his career to be like -- something like Justin Timberlake's. Boneta is already making steps toward that by taking on movie and TV roles and also focusing on music.

Boneta says his musical abilities come from his Puerto Rican grandfather, Otto Boneta.

"All the Boneta in Puerto Rico are my family," he said. "I have cousins over there that I've gone to visit a few times. My grandfather was born in Rio Piedras and had 10 brothers. From him, I got my rhythm to sing salsa and my passion for living."
