One Direction has just confirmed that they will be dropping their newest album Midnight Memories this November. But unlike their first two studio records, 1D says the new album will sound a bit "retro."

Coming off the huge success of their first concert documentary One Direction: This Is Us, the boys are set to release their third record in a few months. However, according to 1D member Liam Payne, Midnight Memories will sound different from their first two records Up All Night and Take Me Home.

"It's very live sounding, very rock-y...[and] quite retro," Liam told MTV. "But it's very different so we are hoping people will kind of adjust to the music with us."

During the short the interview, which took place at the New York premiere of their documentary movie, Payne also confirmed that he, together with bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, wrote songs for their new record.

"We actually spent a lot of time writing this album. We're very proud of it, so we can't wait for it to come out," Payne noted.

It seems that One Direction has also collaborated with several other artists in this new album. Notably, songwriter/producer and N.E.R.D frontman Pharrell Williams has confirmed that he is currently in talks with the 1D manager Simon Cowell and Midnight Memories producers to make a collaboration happen with the boys happen.

"We are definitely talking," Williams said in a report by Sunday Mirror. "From what I've heard of their new stuff I'm pleasantly surprised. Their new stuff is definitely a progression and an elevation. I will hopefully be getting involved as we are definitely in talks."

Payne also confirmed this in a press conference last May, saying that they "had the chance to work with a lot of great writers."

One Direction will be releasing their new album on Nov. 25, and will include their latest hit "Best Song Ever."
