Clay Aiken -- a former "American Idol" contestant turned politician -- recently expressed his thoughts on the celebrity pictures involved in the Labor Day weekend nude photo leak.

"Anybody who takes inappropriate pictures of themselves deserves exactly what they get," Aiken said during a recent interview with The Washington Post.

Aiken then went on to slam the hackers responsible for the leak.

"Of course whoever [stole and released the photos] should be hogtied," he said. "And it's unfortunate that we don't have Internet security right now or the laws in place to protect people from pirating that stuff."

Aiken concluded his thoughts by offering a suggestion to those who wish to photograph themselves in the nude.

"I've got a mirror if I want to check something out," Aiken said.

Since expressing his thoughts on the celebrity nude photo scandal, Aiken, who is currently running for Congress in North Carolina, has been slammed by media outlets and social media users for his negative views on the celebrities' whose intimate pictures were leaked.

"This is a very disappointing attitude from someone who once sang, 'If I was invisible, then I could just watch you in your room.' Good luck with that mindset in your continued quest to represent people in Congress, Clay," Billboard's Erin Strecker wrote.

Jezebel writer Kara Brown also took part in slamming Aiken by writing, "Clay Aiken, who also lost 'The Celebrity Apprentice' to Arsenio Hall, has some wildly unpractical advice for all you ladies out there who can't stop taking pictures of your naked bodies."

Brown added that Aiken, "has absolutely no idea why people take nude photos in the first place."

Twitter users also took part in slamming Aiken.

@SergioLives88 tweeted, "I love his logic. Really hope he doesn't get elected #ClayAiken Thinks #JenniferLawrence Deserved to Be Hacked."

Another Twitter user @ShaneAvery wrote, "Not going to gain any new fans with this: #ClayAiken gives his opinion on the celeb nude hack scandal."

So far, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Kaley Cuoco and the other celebrities involved in the leak have yet to respond to Clay Aiken's statements.
