What's the difference between the Surface Pro 2 the Surface Pro 3? Here's how the two tablet stack up against each other.

Surface Pro 2:

The Surface Pro 2 has a 10.6-inch screen with 1920x1080 pixels display and comes with fourth generation Intel Core i5 processor. Both the cameras are 720P HD.

The internal memory is either 64 or 128 or 256 or 512 GBs. For the 64/128GB variation, the RAM is 4GB. The 256/512GB variation the RAM is 8GB in size.

Surface Pro 3:

The Surface Pro 3 comes with a physical screen size of 12-inches and 2160x1440 pixel display resolution. It was launched in five different versions: 64GB internal memory with Intel Core-i3, 128GB with Core-i5, 256GB with Core-i5, 256GB with Core-i7 and 512GB with Core-i7. It has 2GB RAM for all the versions. Rear and front cameras are 5MP and 3.5MP, respectively.

The Surface Pro 3 has somehow managed to justify Microsoft's claim of eventually replacing the PC with a tablet. The 12-inch screen with 10 finger multi0touch along with the revolutionary 3:2 aspect ratio has given a new definition to the idea of high quality touch and resolution.

On the other hand, for a slate tablet, the Surface Pro 3 has an extremely bulky design, and it still lacks an SD card slot -- a big disappointment from Microsoft.

In addition, software bugs are there even after the latest patch release, and the type cover promised is available only for an extra cost.

Talking Points:

Microsoft changed its sales strategy by the end of August to increase the sale of the Surface Pro 2 and cut down the price by $100. This worked wonders, and it took just until the middle of October for the Surface Pro 2 to go out of stock for huge demands

The Surface Pro 3 was claimed by Microsoft as a tablet that can replace a PC. The tablet attracted huge demand and most of suppliers went out of stock in a very short period of time.

After the tablet was actually launched, however, there were complaints of overheating and Wi-Fi network issues along with few software bugs. This compelled Microsoft to release a patch in September addressing some of these issues.

Prices:

The 64, 128, 256 and 512 GB variations of the Surface Pro 2 currently sell for $899, $999, $1299 and $1799 respectively in the market.

The Core i3 version of the Surface Pro 3 goes for $799, 128GB/i5 for $999, 256GB/i5 for $1299, 256GB/i7 for $1549 and 512GB/i7 for $1949.

Conclusion:

If you are really looking forwarding to having a tablet fulfill many of your PC needs, then the Surface Pro 3 is your thing.

If you are just another tablet enthusiast interested in a portable device, then there is hardly any difference between the Surface Pro 2 and the Surface Pro 3 besides the Surface Pro 2's more attractive and lower price.
