The NFL is not giving up on its relentless pursuit to punish M.I.A. for her inappropriate gesture during the 2012 Super Bowl performance with Nicki Minaj and Madonna.

Cameras had captured M.I.A. as she raised her middle finger to the live television audience, and the league hasn't forgotten. The NFL is trying to fine her $1.5 million for breaching her performance contract and damaging the "wholesome" image of the league.

M.I.A. is known for her human rights advocacy, and her lawyer, Howard King, said that has had to take a backseat as she deals with the NFL.

"She is going to go public with an explanation of how ridiculous it was for the NFL and its fans to devote such furor to this incident, while ignoring the genocide occurring in her home country and several other countries, topics she frequently speaks to," said King.

King continued to turn the tables on the NFL, pointing at all of the other problems in the league as being much more immediate and which require much more attention than a simple case like this.

"Of course, the NFL's claimed reputation for wholesomeness is hilarious," King tells THR, "in light of the weekly felonies committed by its stars, the bounties placed by coaches on opposing players, the homophobic and racist comments uttered by its players, the complete disregard for the health of players and the premature deaths that have resulted from same, and the raping of public entities ready to sacrifice public funds to attract teams."

The NFL has been alone in its pursuit of prosecuting M.I.A. as NBC and others have not even considered punishing her.
