"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is gearing up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2016 and it is currently casting. Disney is lining up a great cast that now includes Javier Bardem, who is in early talks.

The Spanish actor is currently negotiating and it looks like he will play a Villain role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, although plot details are still unknown, Bardem is rumored to play a ghost captain who blames Sparrow for the death of his brother and is searching for a supernatural object to aid him.

The role would bring Bardem back to a villainous character as he has been seen in this type of role in the acclaimed "Skyfall" as Silva and in the Oscar winning film "No Country for Old Men" as Anton Chigurh.

The film has yet to finish casting and it will be interesting to see if Bardem's wife Penelope Cruz will also return to the franchise. The Alcobendas, Spain-born actress starred in the fourth installment, "On Stranger Tides," in the role of Angelica. She played the female lead and femme fatale. At the end of that film, Jack Sparrow, who will be played by Johnny Depp once again, left the character stranded on an Island after she attempts to kill him.

Given that these films have followed a sequential order throughout it would make sense that Angelica's character return, especially if she wants revenge. After all, Jack Sparrow killed her father Blackbeard in the film and she was a love interest to the character.

It would not be the first time Bardem and Cruz collaborated on project. As a matter of fact, they have shared three screen credits together. In 1997, the two actors starred in Pedro Almdovar's film "Live Flesh." Cruz played a supporting character while Bardem played the protagonist in the film.

Eleven years later, the couple joined forces for Woody Allen's 2008 film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." In that feature, the two played a couple, and for the film, Cruz won an Oscar for her role as Maria Elena.

Five years later, the couple starred in Ridley Scott's highly-publicized film "The Counselor." Like in "Live Flesh," Cruz and Bardem did not share a single scene. Cruz played Michael Fassbender's wife while Bardem played a cartel boss.

Cruz is known for being very picky with her roles and is currently filming "Grimsby." However, after that she has a Spanish film, which has not announced when it will start shooting. The actress is also known for her work on "Nine" and "Volver," for which she received Oscar nominations. She also starred in "Broken Embraces," "Blow," "Vanilla Sky," and "All About My Mother."

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" currently has Geoffrey Rush rumored to play Barbosa and Orlando Bloom has been rumored to return as Will Turner. However, Keira Knightley has already stated that she will not reprise her role as Elizabeth Swan. Other rumored actors are Jack Davenport, Keith Richards and Mackenzie Crook.

Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the film with Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg slated to direct.
