Warner Bros. is in search of a female director for their upcoming "Wonder Woman" film.

According to Warner Bros.' superhero schedule, the Wonder Woman will get a standalone film, which is set for June 2017. It would be one of the first female superhero films in years and would also be one of the most anticipated films since the hero is widely recognized in DC Comics.

According to many sources, the studio is looking for a woman director to take on the film, and while many sources have wish lists, Forbes has put together a list with five names that the studio is looking at.

According to the list, Kathryn Bigelow is one the top contenders with Catherine Hardwicke, Karyn Kusama, Mimi Leder and Julie Taymor. These filmmakers are extremely different in styles and filmmaking approaches.

In recent years, Bigelow has focused on war dramas and on political films. While she is on Forbes list, it is highly unlikely she will direct the film, especially when she will be doing "The Triple Frontier" and the already-announced "The True American." It is also highly unlikely Bigelow would direct a film like "Wonder Woman" because she has a darker filmic aesthetic and usually goes for more serious and thought-provoking projects.

Hardwicke is a better choice, especially since she directed "Twilight" and has experience with franchise films. While she is currently filming "Miss you Already" with Dominic Cooper, Hardwicke has not announced her next film, and that could mean she has time to prepare a Wonder Woman film.

Kusama best known for her work on "Jennifer's Body" and "Aeon Flux" is extremely experienced with big studio tentpole films. She is currently in post production with her upcoming film "The Invitation" and is currently filming "XX." Kusama tends to explore genre and Wonder Woman would be a perfect fit.

Leder has not directed a film since 2009. She instead has dedicated herself to directing TV shows. Previous to that, she did a lot of action films and special-effects-driven work, including "Deep Impact." Having worked with the studio and having already experienced working with special effects, she could definitely work well for Warner Bros.

Lastly, Taymor is an interesting choice. She has had experience with superheroes, but the one time she tried a comic project, it was a debacle. She was originally hired to direct the terribly reviewed "Spider-Man" Broadway show. However, she quit after numerous accidents. On film, Taymor has done a number of Shakespearean adaptations, a musical and a biopic. None of that says comic book movie. However, Taymor has a unique vision, and that could be positive to a DC movie.

Gal Gadot is set to star a Wonder Woman and will appear in the upcoming "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice." That movie will star Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Scoot McNairy and Laurence Fishburne. "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released on March, 25, 2016.
