Five members of a Texas family died in a tragic car accident on Interstate 20 while they were on their way to Disney World on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night at around 11 p.m. near Calhoun. Officials believe the 16-year-old driver fell asleep behind the wheel of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, reports MSN. It appears the driver over-corrected, causing the SUV to flip over and eject six of the eight occupants who were not wearing seat belts. As a result, two adults and three children were killed.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, and two others, survived the crash. The driver was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, and the two additional survivors were treated for moderate injuries.

Officials identified the adult victims as Michael and Trudi Hardman of Terrell, Texas. The three children who were killed were ages 4, 7, and 15.

Trudi was a kindergarten teacher at the Wills Point Primary school, and her husband Michael taught second grade at J. F. Kennedy Elementary School in Terrell.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family members, colleagues, students and friends. We must lift each other up during this difficult time," Terrell school district Superintendent Michael French said in a statement, according to USA Today.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to all of the people affected by this tragic crash," said Col. Mike Edmonson, Louisiana State Police superintendent. "Crashes like this one don't just affect the people involved. They affect family members, friends, Troopers, first responders and the community at large. In an instance this family vacation turned into an unspeakable tragedy. I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing a seat belt anytime you are in a vehicle."

Although state troopers did not suspect that the young driver was impaired, a toxicology sample was taken, reports The Associated Press.
