As the the 2014 Gore-Tex Philadelphia Marathon comes to a close on Sunday, marathon participants should expect to see many road closures and parking limitations.

NBC Philadephia reported that the Philadelphia Art Museum parking will be limited on Sunday because of the influx of participants and activities taking place on the final day of the marathon.

"Motorists and pedestrians can expect significant delays when trying to cross roads or streets adjacent to the course," NBC reported.

Some of the road closures to take place during Sunday's marathon include but are not limited to delays and shutdowns along "18th Street, from Arch to Callowhill streets,19th Street, from Arch to Callowhill streets, 20th Street, from Arch to Callowhill streets, 21st Street, from Spring Garden to Arch streets, 22nd Street, from Spring Garden to Arch streets, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, from 22nd to 16th streets, Arch Street between 16th to 4th streets, and 4th Street Arch to Vine streets," NBC reported.

In addition to the delays and road closures, Philadelphia natives and marathon participants can expect to see Mayor Michael Nutter participating in the festivities, although he will not be running, according to NBC.

"The Gore-Tex Philadelphia Marathon is one of my favorite events of the year," Nutter told NBC. "From our historic sites along the course, to the enthusiastic fans that line the sidewalks, this race showcases some of the best elements of our great City. I'm looking forward to being out there at the Start/Finish line again this weekend to experience all the excitement of Race Weekend 2014."

The official Philadelphia marathon website states the first Philadelphia marathon took place in 1994.

Since then, the Philadelphia marathon has continued to grow each year and is now acknowledged as one of the top 10 marathons of the country.

This year, the Philadelphia marathon kicked off its festivities on Friday, Nov. 21, with the Health & Fitness Expo, Rothman Institute 8K and Kids Fun Run. The marathon ends on Sunday, Nov. 23, with the GORE-TEX® Marathon and Half Marathon races.
