If you were looking to get your hands on an Xbox One or Playstation 4 before the holiday season, hopefully you already did.

If you didn't, it looks like you're out of luck.

The Playstation 4 and Xbox One game consoles -- which will be released on Nov. 15 and Nov. 22, respectively - have been sold out, according to most retailers. According to NBC News, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Gamestop, and even Amazon have put a hold on the pre-order units that have been sold thus far.

"Reservations are currently closed for both the PS4 and the Xbox One and demand is high," Jackie Smith, a spokesperson for GameStop's corporate communications, told NBC News. "In fact, our 'first to know' mailing lists for next-generation consoles have more than 2.2 million subscribers!"

Walmart will have a "very select" inventory of the game consoles on the launch date, according to company spokesperson Sarah McKinney. "There's nothing you can do to guarantee them right now," she said.

Sony actually seemed to be encouraged by the news because it means that the demand for the game consoles is even higher than anticipated. In an email to NBC News, Sony said that the consumer reaction to the PS4 "has been phenomenal."

"Our retailer partners have combined for over 1 million pre-orders worldwide to date, so it's clear that people can't wait to get their hands on PS4," the e-mail also said. "We will try our best to meet all demand needs, but it's very possible that demand will outstrip supply at launch."

A Microsoft spokesperson also wrote in an emailed statement to NBC that the company is "anticipating" that Xbox One consoles will be sold out during the holiday season.
