Whoopi Goldberg's days on "The View" could be limited.

According to People magazine, the morning talk show host has already signed on to star in the new ABC comedy pilot "Delores & Jermaine," which chronicles the life of a former Washington, D.C. cop and grandmother who allows her estranged grandson to move in.

The timing of Goldberg seeking out new ventures seems somewhat suspect, given the issues now plaguing the suddenly ratings-challenged talk show Barbara Walters founded years ago. Walters recently left the show along with fellow original host Joan Behar, fueling even more speculation about its long-term prospects.

The New York Post reports Goldberg herself was set to leave the show altogether before fellow host Rosie O'Donnell cited medical concerns and bowed out before she had the chance. Reportedly, ABC execs briefly blocked Goldberg from joining the "Delores and Jermaine" cast following O'Donnell's announcement.

Goldberg has downplayed much of the rumored behind-the-scenes tensions.

"I'm trying to get on 'Empire,' and ABC has a show that they want me to do," she recently told reporters. "I've always been able to come and go as I choose. It's been in the contract to allow me to go and make movies if I wanted to or do something if I wanted to. So we'll see how it all works out."

Goldberg and O'Donnell often clashed on the show, sometimes even on air, a fact the Academy Award-winning "Ghost" star tried to downplay.

"I'm very happy," she said of still being on the ABC show. "I'm working. I never put down the fact that I have a really good job, but I also have bosses. They make decisions ... sometimes you don't like them and you have to live with them."
