Monday Night Football went down to the wire and the Carolina Panthers ultimately wound up with a sixth straight victory after holding off the New England Patriots.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had a 25-yard touchdown pass with under a minute to go in the game, but the Patriots stormed back and marched to the Panthers' 18 yard line. A controversial final play of the game resulted in a Panthers victory by interception after a pass interference flag was picked back up by the officials. The referee, Clete Blakeman, spoke to the media after the game was over.

"So it was determined at that point in time that when the primary contact occurred on the tight end that the ball, in essence, was coming in underthrown and in essence it was (immediately) at that point intercepted at the front end of the end zone," Blakeman said. "So there was a determination that, in essence, uncatchability, that the ball was intercepted at or about the same time the primary contact against the receiver occurred."

Pats coach Bill Belichick didn't have much to say about it after the game either but said nobody explained the situation to him.

"There was no explanation given to me. Officials ran off the field. I didn't see anything," Belichick said. "It was the last play of the game. There was a flag thrown, and then the game was over."

Brady had 296 yards and a touchdown to go along with the interception late in the game. Cam Newton had a solid game on the ground as he rushed for 62 yards on seven carries.

The Patriots and Panthers are now both 7-3 on the season.
