As the temperature outside continues to drop, the temperature inside the offices of Major League Baseball general managers continues to rise.

The MLB offseason is underway and so are the rumors about potential trades and signings. The most notable free-agent on the market this offseason is Robinson Cano, who is seeking a monstrous $300 million contract. Although The New York Yankees want Cano to return in pinstripes, they also are not willing to pay him such a ridiculous amount of money. The New York Mets, on the other hand, met with Cano and his agent, Jay-Z, while the Yankees were standing firm with their stance from before.

"We want Robbie back; we think Robbie is terrific," Yanks President Randy Levine said this week to ESPNNewYork.com. "But we have no interest in doing any 10-year deals and no interest in paying $300 million to any player. Until he gets a little more realistic, we have nothing to talk about.''

Among other big names on the market this offseason include Carlos Beltran, who has re-emerged as one of the top outfielders in the game despite his age. Not surprisingly, the Boston Red Sox have reportedly shown interest in the veteran outfielder and he could fit in nicely as a Designated Hitter. Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald said Beltran and the Red Sox have had "serious dialogue."

In other news, the Detroit Tigers will reportedly listen to offers for slugger Prince Fielder as the team suffers from payroll issues. Fielder has a monstrous contract and even worse, the veteran struggled last year in comparison with his career averages. He hit .279 with 25 homers while playing in all 162 games last season.

We can expect plenty of potential moves to come in the next month as teams around the league gear up for the much anticipated winter meetings taking place in December.
