Owners of the 2nd-generation Motorola Moto X on AT&T's network can finally count themselves among those with the latest version of Google's Android operating system. That's right folks, Android 5.0.2 Lollipop is rolling out.

AT&T officially began pushing out Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for the Moto X Wednesday, and users are reporting in that download notifications are starting to pop up around the country. The update was first spotted earlier this week as AT&T began releasing the update as part of a soak test to hammer out any final issues with the firmware. As usual, the update is being rolled out in batches over the airwaves, so some users may have to wait a little longer than others to download.

Standard procedure applies, and those upgrading should always back up their device in case anything goes wrong during the installation process. The update is a rather large one since it's a brand new Android operating system complete with a new runtime module, so you'll also want to be tethered to a Wi-fi connection.

AT&T is the last major carrier with a Moto X variant to provide a Lollipop update. Many other carriers, including the usually slow Verizon, updated their Moto X variants to Android 5.0 Lollipop soon after Google released the code late last year. AT&T Moto X owners, however, have received nothing until now. Luckily, it might have been worth the wait.

The Moto X was able to receive an Android 5.0 Lollipop update so quickly due to the fact that the Moto X runs a near-stock Android interface. Unlike other manufacturers who have to take the time to tailor the new Android source code to their in-house interfaces such as Samsung's TouchWiz or HTC's Sense, the Moto X can be quickly updated since it doesn't require much tinkering. There can, however, be a drawback to the quick fix.

Soon after Android 5.0 Lollipop released, it became clear that there were a number of bugs. Devices across the board, especially the Google-branded Nexus lineup of phones and tablets, reported major issues, some which rendered the devices unusable. Google quickly released Android 5.0.1, and subsequently Android 5.0.2, as fixes. Taken in that light, AT&T Moto X owners will be happy to know they will running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with fewer bugs than their counterparts who got Lollipop quicker, along with all of its initial bumps in the road.
