The New York Knicks are expected to make a push to sign big-name free agents in the offseason, including current Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe.

The Knicks, who currently have the worst record in the league at 12-46, have enough cap space to sign another superstar to pair up with Carmelo Anthony this season.

However, Marc Berman of New York Post reported that league executives are unsure if the Knicks can persuade a big-name player to move to the Big Apple because of their current record. Sources said, though, that they have a good chance of acquiring Monroe and Orlando Magic forward Tobias Harris.

"Despite all the talk about the Knicks' 2015 cap space, several league executives think they're going to have a hard time landing players given their bleak situation," Berman wrote. "They do believe the Knicks have a legitimate shot at two guys -- Long Island's Tobias Harris and Monroe."

Monroe, who is playing in his fifth in the league this season, was a restricted free agent last summer, but he declined to sign a long-term deal with the Pistons. Instead, he accepted a one-year qualifying offer that earned him the right to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2014-15 NBA season.

The 24-year-old power forward, who is averaging 15.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this season, will reportedly command a maximum deal that will start with at $15.7 million salary in the first year of the contract.

Sources said the Knicks, along with the Los Angeles Lakers, are willing to offer a maximum deal to acquire the former Georgetown standout, who was reportedly shopped by the Pistons before the NBA trade deadline last month.

However, David Falk, Monroe's agent, told the Detroit Free Press that Monroe is open to re-signing with the Pistons and that money will not be the lone factor that they will consider when the five-year veteran hits free agency.

"It just depends on what the intangibles are," Falk said. "Where do you want to move? Who do you want to play with? Who do you want to play with? Is there a coach you want to play for? Do you want to be the star on a rebuilding team or do you want to be a complementary player on a championship team? Those are all intangibles."

Monroe wanted out of Detroit before, but analysts believe that the forward could have changed his mind when the Pistons hired Stan Van Gundy as their new coach and when they waived Josh Smith earlier in the season.
