Barcelona and Real Madrid continued their winning ways.

Barcelona defeated Espanyol, 2-0, to pick up their 26th win of this La Liga season. Both Lionel Messi and Neymar scored a goal to secure a victory. With that win, Barcelona is now 26-3-4 with 81 points, the highest in the league.

Messi has 36 goals this season, and extended his career Spanish League goal record to 279, the most ever. Messi's 36 goals this season rank second in the league, and he still has the most assists of any player this season with 16. His partner in crime, Neymar, recorded his 19th goal of the season against Espanyol. The 23-year-old Brazilian striker now has 19 goals this season, the fourth most in the league.

The South American trio of Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez will always steal the headlines, but goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has been outstanding this season. Bravo leads the league in goals against average, clean sheets and minutes played.

Barcelona will play Getafe on Tuesday.

Real Madrid extended their winning streak to five games thanks to a 4-2 victory over Celta Vigo. Cristiano Ronaldo was held scoreless, but Javier Hernandez is shining at just the right time. The Mexican forward has expressed his desire to play more, and he's responded very well. Hernandez scored two goals against Celta Vigo. Hernandez also scored a huge goal against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Colombian superstar James Rodriguez also scored against Celta Vigo.

Real Madrid hasn't lost a single game since their loss to Barcelona in Week 28. With their win over Celta Vigo, Real Madrid is now 26-1-6 with 79 points. Barcelona has been hot lately, but Real Madrid isn't going down without a fight. Real Madrid will play Almeria in their next game, who they beat 4-1 in Week 14.

Because of the ongoing UEFA Champions League tournament, Week 34 of the La Liga season will begin on Tuesday with three games being played all the way through Thursday.

Atletico Madrid picked up their 22nd win of the season defeating Elche, 3-0. The defending champions have 72 points, good enough for third place in the standings. It will be tough for Atletico Madrid to hoist another Spanish League Championship, but there's still five games remaining. Goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moyà gives this team some hope down the stretch.

Messi and Neymar appear to be the best La Liga duo today, maybe in all of soccer. They know this title is theirs to lose, regardless of how well Real Madrid is performing. As the season winds down, the stakes couldn't be higher.
