Carmen Villalobos, the popular actress who plays the incorruptible agent Leonor Ballesteros on Telemundo's "El Señor de los Cielos," knows that the series' themes of crime and corruption hit close to home not just in Mexico, but also in her homeland of Colombia, Vívelo Hoy reported.

"At a Latin American level, we are (talking about) countries where, unfortunately, we have to confront these kinds of problems," the 31-year-old told the publication. "I have always said that the sun cannot be covered up with a finger, and I believe that the best way to fight something is always to talk about it."

But Villalobos insisted that the Telemundo show "obviously is fiction." That may be lost on some of its faithful followers who had a hard time accepting that the actress's character this season "will be dangerously close to betray her principles (and) for a moment will fall victim to the seduction of her enemy," drug lord Aurelio Casillas, as El Nuevo Herald put it.

"There are people who say, 'Why Ballesteros? Ballesteros was the only one that wouldn't ...'" Villalobos told the Miami newspaper. "Many people on social networks -- most of them Mexicans -- have told me, 'I wish there were more police officers like you'; because it is true that (Ballesteros) is the only character who truly does something against the drug (trade) and corruption," she added.

Meanwhile, rumors continue to fly about how the romance between Ballesteros and her archenemy Casillas, the gangster who ammasses enough power to effectively control Mexico's entire government but undergoes a change of heart this season.

"That is a very crazy thing," Villalobos told Vívelo Hoy. "There is no love (between them) because there can be no love between two people who have hated each other so much ever since the first season. But there is, in fact, a physical -- sexual -- thing, in which all that hate ends up," the actress admitted.

When asked to explain the continued success of "El Señor de los Cielos," Villalobos crited the show's creators.

"The rating of any season, novela or movie always depends on the script," the Colombian star said. "We have a spectacular screenwriter who has taken the time to write some incredible scenes and to have a storyline that has obviously captured the audience," she concluded.
