Adrian Peterson is continuously being linked to a move out of the Minnesota Vikings and the disgruntled running back expressed strong interest in playing in his home state with the Dallas Cowboys.

Peterson, a Texas native, is being linked to a move to several teams, including the Cowboys. When asked about the possibility of playing in Dallas, Peterson has a positive and interesting response.

"It would be nice," Peterson said of playing in Dallas. "I've got family here, my dad's here. But I'm under contract, so we'll see."

Peterson admitted earlier this year that it would feel uneasy for him to return to the Vikings next season after his relationship with his team went on a downward spiral last year.

The 30-year-old running back was placed on commissioner's exempt list last season after he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless injury charge for using a switch to discipline his four-year-old son.

Peterson, who was limited to one game last season because of the misdemeanor charge, reportedly asked the Vikings to release him from the final three years of his contract worth $45 million. However, the Vikings did not give into the request and insisted that they have no plans to release Peterson.

Sources said, though, that the Vikings are not open to releasing Peterson, but will be open to a trade before the 2015 NFL season. Aside from the Cowboys, the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also in the mix to acquire Peterson.

Former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter hinted during an interview on Mike & Mike show that Peterson will be traded before the start of the new season. He said he is aware of the situation, but he insisted he is not allowed to give any details about the proposed deal.

"I'm under a gag order on the Adrian Peterson situation. But I believe something is gonna happen. But I can't talk about it," Carter said of trade rumors involving Peterson.

However, Vikings general manager Rick Spielman insisted that they are planning to keep Peterson and played down all trade talks involving the former NFL Most Valuable Player.

"Our position has not changed since all the statements we made down at the owners' meetings," Spielman said via New York Times. "Adrian Peterson is under contract. His suspension was lifted. We're looking forward to having Adrian Peterson back here as a Minnesota Viking in 2015. That's the end of the story. That's it."
