News regarding the Ridley Scott sequel "Prometheus 2" has been gaining Internet popularity, and now, more details regarding the film's plot have surfaced.

Official word on the sci-fi film, which is a direct sequel to 2012's "Prometheus," has been vague, but here's everything that is known about the upcoming film so far.

The Cast

Noomi Rapace (Dr. Elizabeth Shaw) and Michael Fassbender (android David) are expected to reprise their roles in the film.

According to The Telegraph, Dr. Shaw may die in the movie to be replaced by a new female character. David, on the other hand, was decapitated at the end of the first film. It's possible that the character may return as a bodiless being.

Plot Details

The film will focus on the search for the home planet of The Engineers dubbed as "Paradise."

For those who don't recall, The Engineers were the species that created the human race and decided it was time to put an end to humanity. It's also reported that the story of the film will be set on Earth, and the lead characters will later discover that The Engineers are actually commanded by another power.

Film Title

Multiple reports also indicated "Prometheus 2" will be set on Earth and subtitled "Hell on Earth."

Release Date

Multiple online sources have tagged the film to be set for an undetermined 2016 release date. While Fox has not given an official date, IMDb has set the film's premiere to March 4, 2016.

New Kind of Alien

While the second film follows the events of the first movie, Scott wants extraterrestrial life to be something different.

"The alien's real which is why it's probably one of the scariest monsters in film history. So with Prometheus 2 what I'm trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act," Scott in an interview with The Australian.

Xenomorphs are said to be out of the sequel.

With the film reportedly set on Earth, but following the premise that it's a search for The Engineer's home-world, recent reports also revealed that aliens are probably no longer the villains. In addition, the film reportedly draws inspiration from the plot of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."
