Miguel Cotto confirmed he is interested in facing Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, but he reiterated that he is still focused on his preparation for his upcoming fight against Daniel Geale on June 6 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Cotto, who holds a 39-4 record with 32 knockout victories, will defend his World Boxing Council middleweight title against Geale, but recent reports indicated that HBO and Golden Boy Promotions have already talked to the Puerto Rican champion about the showdown with Alvarez later this year.

While he admitted that they are planning to fight Alvarez, Cotto said he needs to take care of Geale first next month. And if he gets past Geale, Cotto insisted that he will not let Alvarez and his camp dictate the terms as he is still the bigger draw because of his experience and world title.

"I'm coming into my fight. I will do the job that Freddie Roach has designed in my training camp," Cotto said via BoxingScene. "But whatever HBO has thought out, whatever Oscar De La Hoya or Saul Alvarez has thought out, I don't care about that. Facing James Kirkland or Erislandy Lara is not the same as facing Miguel Cotto."

Cotto, who recently signed a three-fight deal with Roc Nation Sports, is also being linked to a title unification bout against reigning World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

Golovkin, who will defend his titles against Willie Monroe on Saturday night at the Forum in California, is the mandatory challenger for Cotto's WBC middleweight title, but reports revealed Roc Nation Sports has talked to Golovkin's camp about a step-aside deal to give way to the Cotto-Alvarez fight.

Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya, who handles the career of Alvarez, also confirmed earlier this week that they have ongoing talks with Cotto's camp about the fight, but the Hall of Fame boxer is still unsure if the bout will happen later this year.

Alvarez also declared that he is ready and is not afraid to face Cotto because he is determined to fight the best fighter available to give the boxing fans what they are looking for.

"I will continue to fight the best fighters," Alvarez said. "That is what I do. I fight for myself and for the fans. I'm not afraid of any fighter. Cotto is a champion and the kind of fighter I want to fight."
