After traveling across the U.S. in search of Bigfoot for the last six years, Animal Planet's reality series "Finding Bigfoot" will begin a new season on the hunt for the mysterious beast in another part of the world.

The two-hour premiere of Season 7, which is slated for Sunday, May 31, will take place in South America for the first time, according to TV Ruckus.

According to native folklore, the mapinguari is a legendary cryptid that resembles an ape-like creature who lives in the Amazon rainforests of Brazil and Bolivia. In order to track down the legendary beast, the Bigfoot team traveled hundreds of miles up the Rio Negro and staked out in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. However, in addition to searching for the elusive creature, the team also had to ward off deadly snakes and jaguars in the jungle.

The team consists of Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO) President Matt Moneymaker, researchers James "Bobo" Fay and Cliff Barackman, and scientist and skeptic Ranae Holland.

Later in the season, the hunters will split up to prove whether Canada or the U.S. is more "squatchy." Cliff and Matt agree that Canada has the best potential for sighting a bigfoot, but Bobo and Ranae are convinced that America offers more opportunity to spot bigfoots. To settle the conflict, they will head to Florida, New York, Maine and Texas.

During each episode, the four researcherstravel to different locations across the coutnry and interview people who claim to have seen Bigfoot. Then, the researchers set up reenactments of the sighting to try to prove the existence of the ape-like creature.

In April, the Bigfoot hunters held a town hall meeting in New Hampshire in preparation for their upcoming voyage in The Granite State.

At least 100 attendees listened and shared stories about their interactions with the mysterious beast, at the meeting in Coos County at the Bretton Woods Ski Lodge.
